Why Build WinForms over LVGL

A long-standing gap

WinForms remains one of the most productive UI models in the .NET ecosystem. It is straightforward, stable, mature, and backed by decades of practical engineering experience.

But once application targets move beyond Windows desktop into Linux, device-side environments, embedded screens, and NativeAOT deployment, the original strengths of WinForms start running into clear boundaries.

At that point, teams usually face two choices:

  • keep WinForms and give up broader platform goals
  • abandon WinForms and move entirely to a lower-level UI stack

keep the WinForms development model while moving rendering to LVGL.

Why not just write LVGL directly?
